This research aims to analyze the nutritional composition of maize kernels from several hybrid maize (Zea mays L.) candidate varieties in order to determine their potential nutritional value. Maize is one of the most important food crops in Indonesia, serving as a major source of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and minerals that support food security as well as the feed industry. Nutritional composition was analyzed using the proximate method, which includes measurements of moisture, protein, fat, ash, crude fiber, and carbohydrate contents. The study was conducted in a laboratory using a randomized block design (RBD) to compare the nutritional differences among the tested varieties.
The results revealed significant variation in nutrient composition across the hybrid candidates. Some varieties showed higher protein and fat contents, while others exhibited superior carbohydrate and crude fiber levels. These findings indicate the potential for developing superior maize hybrids that not only achieve high productivity but also provide improved nutritional quality.
In conclusion, the analysis of maize kernel nutrients can serve as a basis for selecting promising hybrid candidates for breeding programs, the development of nutrient-rich food sources, and their application in feed and bioenergy industries.
